I don't...

...exactly understand the point of engagement photos.
You're getting married.
It's an awesome and incredibly big step.
Most likely, you'll have a (super pricey) professional photographer AT your wedding.
So, why are all of the brides-to-be so inclined to capture memories of themselves scampering through fields and lounging in kiddie pools?

A lot of times, well, sometimes anyway, an engagement session is thrown into the contract, for either cheap or free, so you might as well take advantage of it. Other times, couples want to include a photo in their invitation, and it's a great way to get a good one.

i agree with you...what exactly does this picture represent? the decision to do something momentous? is that photoworthy? i guess for some (alot of somes!) but not me.

Hmm, I can't quite decide my viewpoint.

I guess a lot of photographers now offer a pre-wedding shoot as part of their package. Is this just WIC induced and an excuse to increase prices?

The only reason I would do it is because the boy and I have literally 3 or 4 pictures together. I'm sort of superunphotogenic and need to learn how to photograph more prettily! Also if I look a mess on my "special day - bleurgh!" then it's another chance to try and look fabulous.

Then again, how hard would it be to grab a friend and get them to take shots of us and then obviously delete most of them.

Although, would it not be nice to dress up and cavort merrily through a field with or without a photographer. Maybe with a picnic and champagne. Hmm now that is an idea!

The couples always have AT LEAST one, serious 'pouty' shot and almost always one other where the bride's feet are turned in, so she appears coy.
It makes me want to barf.

I thought this was a momentous happy occasion, not a wanna be model shoot.
